To some, John Hancock is known for a single act; signing the Declaration of Independence with a bold flourish. Despite his legendary status, John Hancock’s whole story is not well known. John Hancock was one of Boston’s leading figures before the Revolution and his support of the Revolution was a large gamble because as the wealthiest man in New England, he had a great deal to lose.
