John Gill

A quiet but tireless Patriot printer who, along with Benjamin Edes, publishes the radical Boston Gazette.

In terms of revolutionary activity, the printer John Gill is easily the equal of his colleagues Paul Revere and Samuel Adams. His newspaper was a source of news for the Patriot point of view and the most eloquent supporters of colonial liberty often chose it to make their political opinions heard.

From the Card:

  • Your print shop is a site for Patriot meetings as early as the 1760s.
  • Your newspaper makes bold statements on political issues.
  • Loyalist printer John Mein argues with you about an article, and assaults you with his cane.
  • You sue him with the help of your lawyer, James Otis, and win hefty damages.
  • During the Siege of Boston you stay in town, but stop printing. After the British evacuation, you and Edes separate.
  • You start your own newspaper, which you operate until your death.
